COMING UP:

Reel World Flix
Documentary Filmmaking for High School students,
July 8-11 Production Week
August 26-29 Post-Production Week

Make something that matters this summer!
Create a short documentary film, from concept to edited product, and screen it at the Port Townsend Film Festival in fall 2008. This two-part intensive workshop will take you through the basic steps of creating a documentary video: developing a story, pre-production planning, shooting, and editing your final piece. Develop a story and bring it to life with a production team! This workshop will be taught by Jane Champion and Jessica Plumb.

Who should attend?
Do you have an interest in film? A love of storytelling or writing? Experience is not required, although it’s great if you have experience shooting or editing video. We’re looking for motivated, creative young people age 14 – 18 who can work in a team.

How do I get involved?
Please email jessica@plumbproductions.com and jane@championvideo.com by April 30th and tell us who you are, what grade you’re in, and why you’d like to attend the workshop. If you have a story idea that you’ve considered, please include it in your message. For more information call 643-0872 or 821-9665, or visit www.plumbproductions.com.

What is the schedule?
The workshop is divided into two sessions, production (shooting the film) and post-production (editing with final cut pro). Students are strongly encouraged, though not required, to sign up for both sessions, and preference will be given to those who sign up for both. We will meet from 10am – 4pm every day on all scheduled days. It is important to attend all classes. The first session will meet at Jefferson Community School in downtown Port Townsend from July 8 - 11, and the second session will meet at WSU in Port Hadlock, from August 26 – 29.

How much does it cost?
The cost for the whole workshop is $395, including materials. Some scholarships are available for those who demonstrate financial need. The cost for a single session is $250. We ask a $100 deposit one month in advance to guarantee a place.

A few student comments from Reel World Flix 2005:

This class rocked! I learned a lot about final cut pro, operating a camera, and technical stuff, but most important, I’m not so shy about talking to people I don’t know.

It was brilliant.

I learned that working with a group can produce results that blow peoples’ minds.

I loved it all!

From an adult volunteer: I loved your professionalism and commitment to excellence. You are such a dynamic, well-organized team of teachers.
